INTELLECTUAL AND ARTISTIC PURSUITS

BY JP D 10TH

In our great society we are incredibly skilled planners. Our city of Mojenjo-Daro is a beautifully well planned street grid. Besides the easy navigation around the city we also have an elaborate drainage system that is even in every house hold. Unlike those other nasty cities we actually like to be clean and have a type of sewage system.

Although our city lacks palaces, temples, or monuments we focused our attention on the well-being of every person. We didn’t want to waste our supplies on random buildings when we could make every household have its own bathing area and make multiple Wells around the city. As we said before we really like being clean. But for those of you who like temples and such we do have one great tourist attraction. The Great Bath. The Great Bath is a huge watertight pool on top of a type of stand. It’s the only thing close to a temple we really have and it was used for ceremonies (and of course for bathing).

But if art is your thing then don't worry because we have that too. Although most of our art and sculptures are destroyed we do have pottery and tools made copper and stone. We also have stone seals, terracotta figures, and the most famous one of all....the Dancing Girl. The Dancing Girl is a naked women dancing which is quite nice and shows the artistic taste of our Indus men. They obviously admire the women and treat them with respect and affection. The stone carvings of sealed male figures represent our great leaders that were the best of the best. But don't get us wrong, we love animals as well. We made animal figurines that were made of terracotta, bronze, or even shell. Unlike Mesopotamia and Egypt, Indus elites did not erect stone sculptures to glorify their power. We are not the type of people to be mean and show off. In our art we did not show depictions of warfare or of conquered enemies because we think that it's tacky.

One really big custom we have that is different from other societies is that we don't bury our dead with wealth. At first it might sound cold but in reality we realized that wealth would help the living more than letting it sit with one of our passed members. So if you want a rich, comfortable, and clean city then come to Mehenjo-Daro. The most modern ancient society to ever be built.
